REVIEW: Vinnie Paolizzi’s Spaghetti Western, Vol. 1

Spaghetti Western, Vol. 1. is true to the poetic lyricism and country-folk storytelling Vinnie Paolizzi has become known for.

For those unfamiliar with the Nashville-based Italian American singer-songwriter, he has over a decade of songwriting experience to his name, has been the guitarist for American country star Brittney Spencer and shared a round with none other than legendary songwriter Dean Dillon.

At the beginning of this year, Paolizzi unveiled his 4-track EP, Spaghetti Western, Vol. 1

Music for the everyday man, each of the songs on Spaghetti Western, Vol. 1, is easily relatable and replete with emotion. Paolizzi has a way of turning a simple moment or reality into a sentimental track by leveraging highly descriptive, poetic lyricism.

In the opening track, “Hummin’,” he sings about keeping one’s spirits and enjoying the journey, no matter what trial or tribulation awaits you (even if that’s an S/O who’s cross with you). Then, in “The Song That Makes Me Rich,” Paolizzi dreams about scoring a hit as a songwriter, a lighter tune which he cowrote with the “Bigger Church” singer, Colton Venner, and Derek Bahr. The tempo picks up in “Family Tree,” in which Paolizzi sings about the strength of familial bonds, even in the face of financial adversity. In addition, he highlights the desire to work hard to change your family’s life, even when the odds are against you. Finally, there’s the somewhat melancholic “What You See,” which reminds listeners that not everything is as it seems, and that there’s a lesson on the other side of a letdown.

Each track on the project seamlessly blends country with folk, both sonically and lyrically. Simultaneously nostalgic and new, there’s a certain irreplicable quality to Paolizzi’s music— and Spaghetti Western, Vol. 1 reflects that.

THE VERDICT

Overall, Spaghetti Western, Vol. 1 is a great listen for those who are fans of the country-folk/singer-songwriter sound, and artists such as Adam Hood, Ben Chapman, Colby Acuff and Colton Venner.

Fans are also encouraged to give Paolizzi’s most recent release, Spaghetti Western Volume II, a listen on their preferred streaming platform.
