2022 IN REVIEW: Jessie T’s Discusses Her Single, “I Can Be Your Margarita”

Pop-country artist Jessie T is self-described as “The kind of girl you can take home to mama but who’ll also bring a bottle of tequila to Thanksgiving dinner” (Jessie T).

Growing up, her uncle was in a band. One Christmas, he gifted her an hour of recording time. The result was her first recorded disc, which she gave out to everyone. The disc eventually made it to the hands of a Kitchener producer (Rich Cutt) and the rest is history.

In her 20s she moved to Kitchener, ON, where she began booking as many gigs as she could in order to make a name for herself as an artist in the local music scene. It wasn’t until 6 years ago (at the time of the interview), that she became a full-time musician. She’s also opened for notable acts such as Paul Brandt, Jess Moskaluke, James Barker Band and The Reklaws.

In September of 2022, she released her late-summer single, “I Can Be Your Margarita”— a fresh, punchy take on your usual country drinking song.

“I Can Be Your Margarita” was co-written with Rich Cloke, Greg Williams, David Madras and Jessie T herself. The group of Ontario-based songwriters was working on a complicated love song Rich had brought into the write before they switched to writing the fun drinking song about margaritas. From there she shares that, “The song just wrote itself” (Jessie T). She then started playing the song live, before taking it into the studio for a first-time prodution collaboration with Matt Koebel.

According to Jessie T, the two ideal settings for fans to listen to the song are “Stepping off a plane, going on vacation. For those who aren’t on vacation, make a margarita, then sit back on the couch and imagine that you’re in paradise” (Jessie T).

Moving forward, Jessie is looking forward to getting back to writing and connecting with more co-writers.

INTERVIEW: Hunter Jordan Discusses His Single, “You Wears Off” and Reflects on the First Year of His Solo Project

Within the first year of his solo project, contemporary country artist Hunter Jordan has already proven to be a name to watch.

Nashville-based contemporary country artist Hunter Jordan has been on a steady rise since he debuted his solo project in February of last year. While starting over from scratch can be a gamble, his debut solo release, “Dark,” proved it can pay off. Within the first weekend, the track was featured on UPstar Music’s “New Music Friday” playlist and gained over 40K+ digital streams on Spotify (with over 343.6K+ digital streams on Spotify at the time of writing). His upward trajectory only continued after that. By the end of year, he had opened for Tyler Farr at Buffalo River Jam, performed for the third time at sought-after venue Luke Combs’ Category 10 (this time as part of BusCall), played numerous local shows and a couple of Upstate New York runs, released 7 singles, grown his highly-engaged online fanbase, secured Spotify listeners in 130+ countries (74.5K+ monthly listeners at the time of publication), and added a couple hundred thousand streams to the 4M+ collective streams across platforms in his career discography (with 1.7M+ collective streams across platforms in his solo discography a year in a half in)— and that’s just scratching the surface.

Last December, he released the “Biggest song of his year,” “You Wears Off”— which he co-wrote with Drew Green (“Best Ex I Ever Had”) and Ethan Willis. Within the vulnerable tune, he sings of a heartbreak he can’t move past by illustrating the small reminders that make the memory of her so hard to erase, like the fragrance of Chanel No. 5.
