Q & A: Brittany Brodie Discusses Her Latest Single, “A Little Too Much”

Calling Nashville, TN home is country singer-songwriter, Brittany Brodie. This past December, she released her 25th single, “A Little Too Much”– a track that encourages listeners to be their authentic selves and not apologize for it.

Recently, I spoke with Brittany about her start in country music, her latest single and more.

Kyla Pearson: For those unfamiliar with you and your music, can you tell us more about how you got your start in music? Why did you decide to pursue country music specifically?

Brittany Brodie: Hello to the new followers, welcome! I grew up surrounded by country music. It was playing on constant rotation from day one. I knew from 3 years of age country music was my home and I never waivered from that destination.

Kyla Pearson: In regards to your artistic sound, you draw inspiration from 90s country. What made you gravitate towards this specific era in country music? What do you appreciate the most about it?

Brittany Brodie: I guess it must be from growing up through all the eras of country music and it just felt right. It was never me picking one or another. When you hear me sing you will know that is where my voice shines. I love the stories, the realness, no loops– it’s all about the voice and the song.

Kyla Pearson: On Dec. 11th, you released your latest single, “A Little Too Much”. Can you tell us more about the track and the songwriting & recording process?

Brittany Brodie: A Little Too Much is real fun for me to sing and I loved that I paid homage to my cussin’… Lord knows I love to do it a little too much. This melody and hook just fell out of my mouth the evening I wrote it with my friends and co-writers Steven Charles & Georgia Miles. We had written most of it one evening and went back and added a bridge later on. I knew it was my next single instantly.

Kyla Pearson: Part of the message within the track is being authentically yourself and owning who you are. What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone struggling to show up as themselves in an industry/environment that constantly tries to tell you who you are and should be?

Brittany Brodie: I have been told everything under the sun about sound and looks and what the “powers that be” want. Until I decided to say “Fuck It”, that’s when everything fell into place. Just be you. You know exactly who that is..deep down I know you do. Just be that. Everything will fall into place from owning that. I don’t know why we put ourselves through the torture to be anything else. Just stop it now. Own it!

Kyla Pearson: According to you, what is the ideal setting to listen to the song to fully experience it?

Brittany Brodie: I have a few different ways I listen to the song, but I feel my favourite way is in my car alone.

Kyla Pearson: Moving forward in 2024, how does this track set the stage for what’s to come? Can fans expect new music sometime soon?

Brittany Brodie: Always. This is my 25th single and absolutely more to come this year.

Kyla Pearson: Lastly, is there anything you'd like to mention/share with your fans?

Brittany Brodie: Never ever give up. Right when you’re about to throw in the towel is when you need to dig your heels in.
