Q & A: Josh David on His Latest Single, “Made To Be Married”

Canadian country artist Josh David is back with his brand-new single, “Made To Be Married”. Written by Blaine Mitchell, David Madras, Lisa Winfield & Josh himself, the R & B infused country track offers a fresh alternative to your typical love song that will surely be a hit with hopeless romantics & country fans alike.

Recently, I spoke with Josh about his start in country music, his latest song & more.

Kyla Pearson: For those who are unfamiliar with you and your music, can you tell us a bit more about how you got your start in music? Why did you decide to pursue country music specifically?

Josh David: I got my start in music when my mom put me in piano lessons as a kid. At the time I would only run for the microphone in the room every time I had a piano lesson. That then lead to her putting me in choirs and musicals etc.

The reason I got into country? Honestly, country had always just drawn me in. The craft that goes into storytelling always fascinated me. Which is the type of stuff I love writing. Super catchy melody with a badass story to follow it up.

Kyla Pearson: Recently, you released your single, “Made To Be Married”. Can you share with us a bit about the songwriting & recording process behind it?

Josh David: It was an amazing time during the process of recording and writing this song. I wrote it with some extremely talented friends of mine David Madras, Blane Mitchell, and Lisa Winfield. Ijust told them about my past with dating and how trash I am at being single but how much I thrive being in a relationship haha. Came together pretty fast to be honest.

Kyla Pearson: In a world that has normalized hookup culture and commitment-averse approaches to dating, your song brings the focus back to marriage and lifelong commitment with the one you love. Why did you feel it was important to release a song with this message? How do you hope fans will receive it?

Josh David: I felt it was important because there are so many songs about how the guy or girl is right or is “The one” for that other person but I had yet to hear a song that was essentially a resume out to all women from a man’s perspective on why he is marriage material. It’s also my attempt to maybe bring light that doing all the chivalry acts shouldn’t be taken as weird? Or as strange. Which I find it is in most cases in today’s society, when it should be taken as a normal thing that every man should be doing to the person they are with and care about. So far the fans have been digging it! Which is exactly what I was hoping for.

Kyla Pearson: According to you, what is the ideal setting for fans to listen to the song in order to fully experience it?

Josh David: Windows down. Music cranked. Country road. Let’s go.

Kyla Pearson: Your approach to marketing the song has also been quite unique, with the inclusion of deadpan/comedic short-form videos that include everything from pseudo-hitchhiking to cats running rampant on a photoshoot set. Were all these videos planned out or spur of the moment? How do you come up with these fresh promotional ideas? Will we see cameos from the cats again?

Josh David: You will 100% see more animals in my videos, cause why the heck not? Haha! I just wanted to market my song while showing who I am as a person–Which is just a big, goofy guy. Very spur-of-the-moment videos. I can’t tell you the number of cringe ones I have. Yikes.

Kyla Pearson: What is one goal you hope to achieve with your music by the end of the year?

Josh David: Same as every year. Be able to give my fans what they want and in the process create new fans who also want to hear what I have to say and hopefully something they can all relate to in some capacity.

Kyla Pearson: Lastly, do you have any upcoming shows where fans can hear you play “Made to be Married” live?

Josh David: I do not, this year is just me honing in on releasing great material for everyone to hear!
